access /ˋæksɛs/ 名-進入的權利;動-進入
n., the ability or right to enter or use; v., to obtain; to gain entry

詞組:
  • 動 - access (In many cafes you can access the internet free of charge.)
  • 名 -access (You need a password to gain access to the online database.)

allocate /ˋælə͵ket/ 動-分派,分配
v., to designate for a specific purpose

delete /dɪˋlit/ 動-刪除

鍵盤上的這個按紐可刪除螢幕的字。
  1. delete/erase/remove的差別:
    delete跟erase是指去除後,東西不再存在;remove則是去除後東西依然存在(只是被拿開了)。而delete較常被用在電腦相關的領域中,erase則是實際生活中、電腦用語都會用到


display /dɪˋsple/ 名-陳列,顯示;動-陳列,顯示

figure out 動-理解,指出

ignore /ɪgˋnor/ 動-忽略
v., not to notice; to disregard

When the director is working at the computer, she ignored everything around her.
當主管在電腦前工作時,她心無旁鶩。

Don’t ignore the technician’s advice when connecting cables.

連接電纜時,別忽略技術人員的建議。
  1. director = 主管、經理、局長、主任(反正就是某個部門、某個團體的頭)
  2. work at the computer = 在電腦面前工作(可能讀文章、寫報告..)
    work on the computer = 正在處理電腦(修電腦、安裝程式...等)
詞組:
  • 動 - ignore (Unfortunately, she ignored the warning about the virus.)
  • 名 - ignorance (His ignorance of this word processing program surprised everyone.)
  • 形 - ignored (The ignored computer glitch caused the database to function improperly.)


search /sɝtʃ/ 名-調查;動-搜尋
n., investigation; v., to look for

Our search of the data base produced very little information.
我們透過搜索資料庫得來的資訊非常少。

如果你上網查,我相信你一定可以查到你想找的資訊。

  1. search/research的差別:
    search比較單純在描述"尋找、發現"
    research則是比較偏學術的"研究",必須透過一連串科學的方法及步驟來達成。
  2. search/seek/look for的差別:
    search:爲了找某樣東西而仔細看,包含找實體的物品或者抽象的答案。
    seek:通常是找"抽象的概念",例如 see an advice
    look for:可以是抽象也可以是實體,而且是在"需要"的狀況下(search跟seek就沒有"需要所以找"的感覺存在)


shut down 動-關掉
v., to turn off; to cease operation

Please shut down your computer before you leave.
請在離開前關掉電腦。

We decided to shut down the blog after receiving so many bad comments.

在收到那麼多負評後,我們決定關掉部落格。
  1. shut down/turn off/switch off 的差別
    turn off 跟 switch off 這兩個,會讓聽者認為所關掉的開關是很簡單地按一下就可以關掉的那種開關,例如電燈等等;而shut down會讓聽者認為所關掉的開關比較複雜,會需要一連串的步驟才能完成,例如設備、機制等等。例如電腦是用shut down、電燈用turn off


Warning /ˋwɔrnɪŋ/ 名-警告
n., an alert to danger or problems

The red flashing light gives a warning to users that the battery is low.
閃紅燈是用來警告使用者電池的電量偏低。

Flashing images on a web page are warnings to attract user’s attention.

網頁上閃爍的圖片是用來吸引消費者的警示。
  1. flashing = 閃爍的
  2. the battery is low = 低電量(用low!)
詞組:
  • 動 -warn (We were warned that our e-mail was not private.)
  • 名 - warning (The warning was written on the box.)
  • 形 - warning (The warning sign were all there, we should pay attention to them.)
